Trainer Profile 02: Samantha Hopewell

Today I sat down with one of Skills Strategies International’s newest trainers Samantha Hopewell to discuss her training journey and what has inspired her to become a thought leader in the vocational education industry.

So Sam, tell me a bit about yourself?

My love of the water sees me on the Swan River most days or at the beach. I love playing guitar, sewing, and watching Golf. Becoming a Trainer and Assessor has brought many friendships and opportunities into my life. I love motivating & guiding young people to achieve things they never thought possible.

What areas of expertise do you bring as a trainer?

Where do I start… Proficient in the Education Support Industry, Small Business Management, I’m a great Motivator, I’m Tech-savvy in basic organizational processes, I’ve got Creative Industries experience, I’m Athletics Coach & Golf Coach accredited …. Oh and I can juggle too!!!

And what qualifications does this mean you train here at SSI?

I train Education Support, Business and Customer Engagement .

What made you move into these areas of expertise?

Being a new Mum back in 2004 led me to the Pre-Primary classroom where I started volunteering in the classroom to help the teachers and this is where I fell in love with the classroom environment. I was passionate about creating and supporting positive & creative learning experiences for children in the classroom. This led me to become an education assistant in 2004. I have creative skills and music skills that I transferred into the classroom.

I grew up in fashion & food businesses that thrived on trends and production. This is where I developed my skills & knowledge in Business, Fashion, and Customer Service. My family-owned business experiences have then transferred over to my own family business in the Solar and Electrical Industry since 2000. I studied small business management and fashion design and technology which then led me to become a trainer and assessor.

How long have you been training/at SSI?

Since October 2020

What attracted you to Skills Strategies international?

The holistic approach to the business’s culture and environment and the leadership and professional development values.

How do you personally offer support to your learners?

I guide the learner with options to support their goals and show them that with a can-do attitude, success is just part of the journey.

How have you found teaching online?

I really love what online learning offers. It supports the learner’s busy work/study life and the professional duties of a trainer. Portable learning is a big thumbs up for me.

Thanks you so much Sam
