Training in Mining
Meeting Learning Needs in Mining
Economic growth in Western Australia continues to be driven by the mining of key resources. Investment remains high, it is a focus for employment and even training. WA is expanding its production of lithium and other critical minerals like cobalt and nickel, essential for the green energy transition. With the rise of electric vehicles and renewable energy storage, the demand for these materials is expected to increase, although prices may fluctuate due to supply dynamics.
The mining sector in WA is increasingly incorporating automation, robotics, and AI, which will require significant upskilling of the workforce. This technological shift promises not only to enhance productivity but also to create new job opportunities and demands for tech services and equipment. These specific technological skills involve significant training opportunities but are not a focus of Skills Strategies International. Our engagement in the mining industry has focussed on the delivery of customized supervisor training and the delivery of training competencies, particularly that focussed on Verification of Industry Competency delivered as part of the Assessor Skill Set.
Recently inquiries have been about managing inclusivity and diversity in the workplace as the import of foreign labour on work visas makes Australians a minority in the workplace. Training in this space covers support for safety and compliance concerns when levels of literacy challenge outdated strategies. Then there are the cultural challenges associated with building teams and workplaces. Furthermore, some mining workplaces strive to integrate into their local communities and there is often a conflict between the industries priorities and the community where the workers reside.
The community focus on environmental sustainability is a further area of concern that is also sometimes in conflict with the priorities of the mining industry. While sustainability is an outward-facing area of concern implementation of small strategies across every aspect of the business will result in cultural change and a mental shift in the workplace.,
In summary, the future of mining in WA is geared towards growth in both traditional and emerging sectors, with a significant focus on technological and environmental advancements. RTOs have a crucial role in equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to thrive in this evolving landscape. Training that aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns focuses on equipping individuals with knowledge and skills to address environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and effective governance within organizations. These areas can be developed through Diploma programs in leadership and business.
Skills Strategies International has developed training content that deals with these content areas and utilizes innovative delivery strategies to ensure exciting delivery that meets all of your staff.
